Stage adaptation of C. S. Lewis' 'Screwtape Letters' Coming

"The Screwtape Letters," which Lewis published in 1942, is presented as a series of letters that Screwtape sends to his nephew Wormwood, a minor demon entrusted with corrupting a single individual, who Screwtape refers to simply as "The Patient," so that this human's soul is kept from "The Enemy" up in Heaven.

Over the past five years, Max McLean has been having a devil of a time portraying the title character in C. S. Lewis' novel "The Screwtape Letters."

Stage adaptation of C. S. Lewis' 'Screwtape Letters' coming to Broken ArrowMcLean helped adapt the novel into a stage play with director Jeff Fiske and originated the role of Screwtape, a demonic functionary who occupies a small office in a corner of Hell.

Re-Inklings book club to focus on C.S. Lewis

Through the 1930s and for nearly two decades, a group of writers and scholars called the Inklings gathered twice a month in a pub in Oxford, England, to read each other’s works and share ideas.

The Rev. Bernard S. Mason (left) and Book Tavern owner David Hutchison have begun a book club called the Re-Inklings, to discuss the works of the original Inklings, a group of English writers and scholars that includes C.S. Lewis.

Some of the works produced by writers who are still considered extremely influential – including C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien – were among those discussed.

“Oxford was so different from what schools are like now,” said the Rev. Bernard Mason. “People would gather in these learning spaces and meet in these small group settings. It was more of a tutorial kind of experience.”

On Production of The Silver Chair

The Lewis Estate’s seven-year moratorium on Narnia films without Walden Media is still in effect, so “The Silver Chair” cannot be released in theaters before 2018. However, pre-production (scripts, locations, storyboards, casting, etc) has begun. This process usually takes several years.

Do you think Will Poulter, who played Eustace in “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, could be back for a role in “The Silver Chair”? This I do not think so, for Will is already 22 and looks too old for young Eustace, even now. By the time filming begins, the producers may think this too.

Could Skandar Keynes (Edmund), Georgie Henley (Lucy), and Ben Barnes (Caspian) have small parts in this new film? Could a final script include Edmund and Lucy Pevensie and a young King Caspian?  When “The Silver Chair” begins casting, the producers may call on Ben. The chances of them calling on Skandar and Georgie are little, though.

The Silver Chair Movie Is Confirmed

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is working its way into production now that the C.S. Lewis Company has entered into an agreement to jointly develop and produce the film based on C.S. Lewis’ fourth book.

Gather round, sons of Adam and daughters of Eve... It has been some time since we last heard anything about “The Chronicles of Narnia”.

Many were wondering whether there actually will be a movie for The Silver Chair, but there will be! Or at least, one is planned, which brings up another of the series' problems: the three most obvious films have been made already. “The Magician's Nephew” would have been tricky given that it's a prequel with a different set of characters and a different lot of concerns (not that all that couldn't have been rewritten, of course). “The Silver Chair” will allow the series to again use Eustace Scrubb and Prince Caspian from earlier installments; look out also for the possibility of Tilda Swinton, who has played The White Witch in previous films (including ones whose source books don't feature her), being reused here as The Lady of the Green Kirtle, who is occasionally considered a version of the same character, something the producers will likely seize on. But it's a downright bizarre tale, gloomy and meandering and prominently featuring a melancholic swamp-creature and an insane and tortured prince. Still, it should be a breeze compared to the one that's all about horses and horrible not-quite-Muslims, or the one where everybody dies.

Gordon, Gresham, and Vincent Sieber will all be producers of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, and will work with Mark Gordon’s company on developing the film’s script.

And now we know more about the upcoming Narnia movie, let's hope it's not a complete perversion!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair Movie in Development

Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair

The C.S. Lewis Company announced an agreement today with the Mark Gordon Company to bring The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair to the screen.
Gordon (Saving Private Ryan, Speed, Source Code) said in a statement announcing the companies' intent to develop and produce The Silver Chair, "Like many readers, both young and old, I am a huge fan of C.S. Lewis's beautiful and allegorical world of Narnia. These fantasy stories inspire real-world passion among millions of devoted fans around the world. As we prepare to bring the next book to life, we are humbled and excited to contribute to the outstanding legacy of Narnia."
Gordon and Gresham will produce The Silver Chair along with Vincent Sieber, the LA based Director of The C.S. Lewis Company. The screenplay adaptation of C.S. Lewis' fourth Narnia novel is now in development.
No word yet if Fox will return as the distributor of The Silver Chair or if any of the cast from the previous films will reprise their roles. The Silver Chair's returning characters include Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson in the movies), Eustace Scrubb (played by Will Poulter in Dawn Treader), and a now elderly king Caspian (who was portrayed as a young prince in the last two Narnia films by Ben Barnes.

Former Home of C.S. Lewis up for Sale

A former home of Narnia author C.S. Lewis has been put up for sale for £1.6m, by agents Elwood and Company and Strutt and Parker.  It’s called ‘Hillsboro’ and is currently advertised as land for potential re-development.  It could be restored as a house, but that isn't a requirement for whomever buys the property.

Hillsboro House - C.S. LewisResident Andrew Colleran said: “It should be kept as a house especially as there is the history behind it.”

Clive Staples Lewis (29 November 1898 – 22 November 1963) was a prolific writer, poet, scholar of English literature and defender of Christianity. His most famous book is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first published of his Chronicles of Narnia.

From October 1924 until May 1926, Lewis served as a philosophy tutor at University College.
On May 20, 1925, he was elected as a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, where he served as a tutor in English language and literature for 29 years.

Lewis lived in the house from 1922 to 1930, after he returned from the first World War.  Abingdon resident Ronald Brind, an author of e-books on the writer and poet, said: “I believe Lewis was the greatest Christian apologist of the 20th century, this is where he lived for eight years and for any other reason this house should be saved as it is part of Britain’s Christian heritage.  It is reason enough to save it and make it like the Kilns, as a place for visitors to explore.”

C.S. Lewis' stepson visits Danville Christian Academy

The middle and high school students at Danville Christian Academy awaited for Tuesday to hear from both Douglas Gresham, the stepson of C.S. Lewis and one of the producers of the “Chronicles of Narnia” series of movies. They also heard from Devin Brown, Asbury University professo,r and author of “A Life Observed: A Spiritual Biography of C.S. Lewis.”

C.S. Lewis' stepson visits Danville Christian Academy
Together, they took the stories of “Narnia” to life as both had read the books in the series, as well as seen the full-length movies that have come out for three of the seven books, including “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” “Prince Caspian” and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”

With each question, Gresham opened the world of Narnia and his stepfather to the students in a way they have never seen — through various stories and humor.
